CONTRIBUTION While working on the Virtual PBX website re-design, I kept on hearing about the volume of calls the support team recieved from people asking the same questions. This pointed to a problem with their website—too much information and not enough explanation. I decided to present a concept that used a friendly metaphor new users could relate to—a hummingbird. Light, speeding through the air, and quiet, the bird reacted to the user's top four questions. It was a risky design for a conservative company, but the CEO was on board. Support calls drop, sign-ups increased, and the industry acknowledge it with two silver ADDY awards.

CONTRIBUTION Living-e, a German software company, was entering the US market and needed a North American brand. The designer created an abstract illustration to represent the various layers of information the software helps organize. I used this style for their website's homepage banner and added motion, light, and a story of fragments of information coming together to support the new brand. It was such a success, that they used in for their German website too.

CONTRIBUTION After completing the Final Cut Pro courses at BAVC, I kept my skills up by entering contests like Open Cut. The competition started when a task was announced. Participants then had a few weeks to receive the content, review the storyboard, edit the video, compress, and upload to the Open Cut server. Challenges included missing audio, sound effects, soundtrack, color and lighting. Lots of fun and hope to do it again.

CONTRIBUTION Baxano was building a website to launch their new medical device line and needed a descriptive animation on the homepage. They had an idea of what they wanted but, after seeing a demo of their products, I knew it would confuse the user. The final Flash animation involved digital image making, photography, and animation effects to provide a visual demo that suited the style of the site.

CONTRIBUTION During my time at Kane & Finkel, there were few designers or Art Directors who knew motion graphics. So, projects involving animation and video always came to me. This web banner was in a series of GIF animations meant to be a teaser for Abbott's National Sales Meeting. The butterfly was a symbol for the FreeStyle glucose monitoring devices, so it was used here to help tell the story. Many frames and butterflies later, we had an extremely pleased client.

CONTRIBUTION As part of a three day course at BAVC, two other students and I were assigned a project to shoot and edit a video for a local performing artist. Madeline Minx is a successful singer/song writer and was a character to work with. We interviewed her, planned a storyboard and location, learned how to use lights and cameras, and spent the next day filming. The last day was spent importing and editing the video together. Madeline later asked me to assist with the choreography for her next video.
